Tekarra Lodge - جاسبر

The location was the principle reason for choosing this accommodation. It is only a couple of minutes by car outside Jasper, and yet directly accessible for the Icefield Parkway and Yellowhead Highway. It is very quiet there too. The view from just outside of our cabin was over the confluence of the Athabasca and Miette rivers, surrounded by mountains, including a direct view of Mount Tekarra. There is direct access to a number of hiking trails from the hotel and many, many more only a few minutes by car. Go as little as an hour further afield, and there are considerable hiking and cycling trails round some very attractive rivers, mountains, lakes and waterfalls, and an hour and a half away is the Columbia Icefield. The people at the hotel were genuinely please to serve you and dealt with requests quickly, not always successfully in our case, but certainly quickly: you are their first priority. The cleaning crew were excellent. The restaurant is good for a treat in the evening as the food is absolutely excellent, but rather expensive even for Canada. There's a fair variety of choices for the buffet breakfast. The cabin was well appointed with clean, undamaged appliances and crockery, and has a real fire that you are at liberty to use. Access to the internet is available via a free, fixed line but modern computer in the reception, so they trust the guests to share it reasonably.

My sister and I had booked twin accommodation and, owing a wedding party that were accommodating, we were upgraded to a cabin which only had a double queen bed. The bed, sadly, had a saggy mattress and I didn't want to spend my time rolling towards her all night. The hotel didn't move us and eventually the mattress became uncomfortable. I ended up sleeping on the sofa but the staff were very quick to provide an extra duvet, blankets and sheets to make up suitable sleeping for me, but I'm only 5'4", so was able to do it. Had it be possible to move us, I'm sure the hotel would have done so. There is no telly in the rooms, which is fine for me, but they had no radio either and therefore the weather forecast was posted up daily in reception, which is fine, but not always in time to start your days activities. A radio would have been a pleasant and useful addition.
